Tip
Subte (Metro): Six lines (A-H), runs 5am-10:30pm weekdays, 8am-10pm weekends.
SUBE card is mandatory — buy at any kiosk for 1000 ARS, works for all public transport. Subte fare: 650 ARS (~$0.60) flat rate. Rush hour (7-9am, 5-7pm) is sardine-can packed with pickpocket risk. Line B (red) connects Palermo to downtown. Line D (green) is the nicest.
Buses: 150+ routes, same SUBE card, 270-650 ARS depending on distance. Google Maps works perfectly for routes. Buses don't fully stop — wave them down, have SUBE ready, they barely pause. Say your stop to the driver.
Taxis: Yellow-black official cabs are metered and generally honest. 900 ARS base + 450 ARS/km. Airport to Palermo: 15,000-20,000 ARS depending on traffic.
Apps: Uber works and is 20% cheaper than taxis. Cabify and DiDi also operate. BA Taxi app for official cabs with tracking. Don't rent a car — traffic is aggressive, parking is nightmare, and transit/Uber covers everything.
Bikes: EcoBici (city bikes) free for 30 min with app registration, stations everywhere in Palermo/Recoleta.
Airport: Ezeiza (EZE) is 35km from center. Official taxi booth at arrivals (fixed 35,000 ARS to Palermo), or Uber pickup at departures level. The bus (Line 8) exists but takes 2+ hours with luggage — skip it.
