Healthcare

Tip

For emergencies: Hospital Alemán (Av. Pueyrredón 1640) or Hospital Británico (Perdriel 74) — both private, excellent, English-speaking staff. Public hospitals are free but chaotic; avoid unless desperate.

Walk-in clinics: Farmacity and Farmacity Simplicity have in-store doctors. 5000 ARS (~$4.50) for consultation, no appointment needed.

Private doctor visit: 15,000-20,000 ARS at any private clinic. Swiss Medical and OSDE are the premium chains.

Dental: Excellent and affordable. Cleaning 25,000 ARS, filling 40,000 ARS at good clinics in Palermo.

Insurance: Get it. SafetyWing ($45/month) or local OSDE plan (35,000 ARS/month) covers everything. Public healthcare is free but you'll wait 8+ hours.

Pharmacies: Farmacity, Farmacity Simplicity, and DrAhorro everywhere, open until 10pm. Many medications OTC that require prescription elsewhere: birth control, antibiotics, inhalers, anxiety meds (not benzos).

Common issues: Altitude change causes dehydration first week. Beef-heavy diet causes... digestive adjustment. Sun is intense in summer (UV 11+) — sunscreen mandatory.

Prescriptions from home: Bring paper copy. Local doctors will write local equivalent for 5000 ARS consultation.
