It's also genuinely one of the best places to watch the sun set anywhere in Western Europe — the rabelo boats moored on the river, the colourful houses stacked up the hill behind you, the cellars across the water lighting up. Go around 7pm in summer (5pm in winter), grab a glass at one of the riverfront cafés, and don't fight the cliché. What to order: A glass of white port at any riverside terrace — €4–6 — and let the hour do the work.
