Safety Notes

Neighbourhood guide

Tip

Palermo (Best for nomads): 9/10 safety. Tree-lined streets, endless cafes, coworking spaces everywhere. Split into sub-barrios: Soho (trendy, loud), Hollywood (quieter, greener), Las Cañitas (upscale, boring). Walking at 2am feels fine. Occasional bike theft if you leave it unlocked.

Recoleta (Quiet, expensive): 9/10 safety. Elderly residents, embassy district, cemetery tourism. Safe but soulless. Good if you want Paris vibes without the energy.

San Telmo (Historic, touristy): 7/10 safety. Cobblestones and tango shows. Sunday market is pickpocket central. Great for a few nights, exhausting long-term. Gets sketchy south of Independencia.

Belgrano (Residential, authentic): 8/10 safety. Where actual porteños live. Cheaper than Palermo, same safety. Chinatown for Asian groceries. Less English, more immersion.

Puerto Madero (Skip): 8/10 safety but pointless. Corporate towers and overpriced restaurants. Safe to walk but why would you.

Villa Crespo (Rising, cheaper): 7/10 safety. Palermo's edgier cousin. Great value, some sketchy blocks near the train tracks. Jewish neighborhood with amazing bakeries.
