On Samlarn Road, the western edge of the Old City, 700 metres from Wat Chedi Luang. Further from the Tha Phae Gate backpacker strip — which is exactly why it's calmer at night. The downstairs café opens to walk-ins from 7am to 5pm, there's a garden lounge and a resident cat. Female dorm bunks have padded ladder steps and small footstools. You get a hand-drawn mini sketch at checkout. Breakfast is included and guests rate it the best they had in Chiang Mai. Eat in the café rather than taking it upstairs.
