Tip
Chiang Mai has three seasons: cool (Nov–Feb), hot/burning (Mar–Apr), and rainy (May–Oct). The cool season is peak time — clear skies, comfortable mornings, low humidity.
March–April is burning season. Farmers burn fields across northern Thailand and the air quality tanks. AQI regularly hits 200+. Most nomads leave or stay indoors with purifiers.
Rainy season brings afternoon downpours but mornings are usually clear. Everything is cheaper and greener.
